I intended to write a more detailed post for these wonderful dinners, but, I'm so short of time.
Wednesday (13th February 2008)
My cousin's family invited us over for a dinner at her beautiful semi-d in Glenmarie Court. Uncle had specially prepared a Thai-like appetizer, a leave "poppiah" with a variety of fillings : peanuts, cashewnuts, lime, chilli, veggie, meat frosh, ginger etc. As you chew, you challenge your taste buds to identify all sweet, sour, salty, and spicy (not bitter =p). Ahh, that's heavenly!
We soon had our main course, which was, to my delight again, chinese delicacies. Yong Tau Foo, meatpaste in chilli, steamboat, vegetarian dish and fried rice! Yummy!
Desserts were pleasing, Ice cream & fruit cake (by Aunt) and Chocolate Peanuts in Boiled Apple (by Ji Yian). We must admit, when it comes to mouth watering food, Uncle and his family are ever creative and talented.
And later, we enjoyed a Japanese wine (I think it's "Chayo"?) of such exquisite taste. It tasted bitter at first, and gradually turns sweet when it goes down your throat. With such delightful accompaniment, we carried away light-heartedly.
Mei Ting was very closely attached to Ying that night, and only wanted Ying to feed and carry her. They were seen together at almost every corner of the house!
I enjoyed the conversation at the tea place the most.
"Mei Shan, we are very open-minded wan, so end of the year, we will meet up again for coffee, and you shall bring your other-half!" Aunt suggested.
I instantaneously shot my dad a glance, and everyone laughed. My dad laughed too, but maybe not whole-heartedly. He's unmistakably the one behind those no-bf-studies-first thing. Oh well.
The night was too short, and I didn't really talked to Ying, which is why she will be coming over this afternoon. To finish the unfinished.
Before leaving, Uncle gave me a Parker ball pen and Popo gave me a necklace through Kuku. The wishes came in, and I knew, for real, I'm leaving.
Thank you so much for reminding me the vital essence in one's life - family.
