Good luck..

My bro wasn't coming back for dinner tonight.

Oh well.

Let's see what's there to eat.

There were 3/4 of bread not eaten, expiring tomorrow.

Oh well.

There were some eggs.

Oh well.

So I had toasted breads with eggs for dinner.

So there I was munching on my sandwich, overlooking the window sill, when I suddenly heard some nervous flutters.

It scuffled to keep its body within the window sill, but it was too narrow. After a few attempts, it gave up and looked into the kitchen instead.

It bent its head down to the small hole at the bottom of the window and felt warmth. I think. Because, next, it pecked vehemently against the window.

After several attempts, it settled in at its spot again. And I continue to eat my sandwich, my gaze unlifted.

Once in a while, it quivered and cringed more into a ball, to smother its body. When it felt warm within, it releases the previous tension and looked into the kitchen again.

And pecked. I felt uncomfortable, is it wanting to come in?

At one point, it looked at my direction, in the eye. At that fleet moment, I felt like it was extending some sort of unfathomable message, it wasn't afraid, it was...

reaching out...

After I finished my meal, it was still there, nailed. But, I didn't want to do the dishes just yet, because walking towards it would make it fly away. And so, I, too was nailed onto my chair, and observed it barely three foot away. I'm still perplexed over the puzzling sense of belonging that washed over me. It was like.... hmmm..

Perhaps, we both felt something in common.

And next, it lost its balance and I heard a thud.

My heart really stopped and I was dumbfounded. What happened?

I rushed over to the other window overlooking the deck and saw it there.. in a bundle... all right. Looks like it had a safe landing on the deck. Somehow, it looked like a duck.

I switched on the spot light to warm up the deck, and it nuzzled in its new position. I observed it for another 5 minutes.

Then I went to do the dishes, and dashed back.

And it's gone.

Where could it have gone, in the dark, in the cold?

Maybe..

Home.
