Just came back from another site observation at Eltham North Kids Centre. Overall, Gillian's been of great help to me, constantly pointing out how the children I observed are like.
Preparing for their outdoor activity, the children were asked to get their jackets and hats, and you can feel the excitement bubbling in them. One ran passed me and noticed the pencil and notepad I had and asked,
"Hey are you going outside to draw?"
"Yeah!"
"Okay then, but the winds are REAAALLY strong, so hold on tightly!"
LOL.
One boy was autistic, though he is as engaged in playing as the others, the way he does it differs a little.
I witnessed a small fight between two boys, where one hit the other with a wood piece. The submissive one had tears welled up in his eyes, and he ran over to hide behind a tree. Just when I thought I should report this, the victim came out from his hiding and walked towards the bully. He asked meekly, "Why did you hit me just now?", but the other was stronger and seemed defensive. Though, you could see that he was feeling rotten about it, his stand weakening.
But of course that incident was not really relevant to my study, just that it was really interesting to observe their behaviors.
A girl, Haylie, came up to where I was and sat beside me, and then we buried an octopus. haha.
=)
